So, I used to wake up every morning at 5:15, make my coffee and put up my blog post for the day, usually a pimp post for someone else. I'd either do a spotlight, cover reveal, or a review of someone else's story. Most of the time, it took me about twenty minutes, and BOOM, I was done, except for the hours I put into reading the book for review. After a dozen or so consecutive (it seemed, anyway) books I didn't like, I sort of got burned out on the reviewing aspect of the deal, and just...quit. It was summer time, the kids were home from school all day, and it got harder and harder to keep up my 5:15 routine, since nobody was going to bed at 8:00 (with the sun shining bright in their windows).
When school started back up, I couldn't get back into the blogging routine. When I woke up at 5:15, I tried to get my social media stuff taken care of and write. Since I hadn't written much all summer, I had some catching up to do.
Suffice it to say, I've not done a book promo blog post in months. Here and there, I'll post a promo for friends, or somebody contacts me for a promo, but that's about it. Sales suddenly suck, big time. The only reasoning I can think of is, since they dropped about the same time my blog did, they're connected. I had no idea.
So, I'm going to compromise. I will do some blog posts, promos of stuff that look good to me, as well as some posts about my own writing, with excerpts and such a few times a week, but not every day. That's the plan.
I'm curious who reads what sort of posts, so if you read down to here, leave a comment, and I'll enter you in a drawing to win a free e-copy of Wrecked. That is all. Have a great week!
I'm still trying to get back on my blogging schedule too. I used to stay up late after the kids went to bed and schedule my posts but I'm on so many antihistamines until the doctor figures out what is causing my hives (since July) that I'm exhausted and in bed by 10. Then I'm scrambling at 6:30 to get all of my posts up in the morning. I need to find a way to get it done in the evening again after all our running around with sports and dance and still go to bed before 2 AM.
ReplyDeleteAs for posts I read, I always read the giveaways and usually more personal posts like this vs promos. Whatever grabs my eye in the email updates is what I click on. :)
It's really hard to prioritize with a family around, isn't it? Sorry about the hives, that sounds absolutely miserable. :) Thanks for reading!
